One of the things I enjoy most about working in construction technology is seeing how quickly the industry continues to evolve.
I’ve been involved with construction software for many years and was an early user of some of the first online takeoff and pre-construction systems. Back then, simply moving estimating workflows from paper to the cloud felt like a major leap forward. Since then, I’ve watched the technology steadily improve as software became faster, more connected, and more accessible for contractors of all sizes.
Today, we’re entering another exciting chapter.
One Example of Innovation in Action
FOREMAN
Advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning are creating new opportunities to simplify complex workflows, reduce manual effort, and help teams make decisions faster. While there’s plenty of hype surrounding AI, I’m most interested in solutions that solve real problems for contractors and project teams.
Recently, I had the opportunity to see a demonstration of Foreman, a newer platform focused on helping contractors streamline pre-construction, project management, and billing workflows. What stood out to me was their approach to automated takeoffs and estimate generation. The team has developed and trained its own AI models to help identify and quantify project requirements directly from construction plans, which is a compelling example of how emerging technology is making traditionally time-consuming processes faster and more efficient.
What I found encouraging wasn’t just the technology itself, but what it represents. Across the construction industry, we’re seeing a new generation of software companies finding practical ways to help contractors save time, improve accuracy, and operate more effectively.
