“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”-Leonardo da Vinci
The promise of technology?
Wasn’t the promise of technology supposed to make our lives easier? Certainly it has in many ways. But if there’s one thing we as construction professionals know, if the technology’s not simple to use, it can actually slow down productivity on the jobsite.
Leonardo da Vinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and when it comes to tool trackers this quote is spot on. Often, a simple solution is indeed the best solution. ShareMyToolbox has approached tool tracking with one key focus in mind – keeping it simple.
Fort Gilbert Mechanical, simplicity was king
Shawn Miller, Tool Coordinator at Minneapolis contracting firm, Gilbert Mechanical, agrees that simplicity and accountability was the way to go for his company. He decided that leading tool tracking app, ShareMyToolbox was the right choice because the solution didn’t add anything complicated or time-consuming to an already busy day for his guys.
Miller felt that ShareMyToolbox was more malleable than the other options he considered and the user functionality was easier and more useful. From a user perspective, it’s been fairly easy to get the crew to adopt it. Miller explained, “The App is so easy to navigate and use. For the older guys who are set in their ways, it’s still easy to check out tools on their behalf.”
Simplicity pays off
It didn’t take long for Miller to discover how a simple tool tracking solution can bring a tangible return on investment. He explained, “My guys can do a search for a tool and find out it’s at the job they’re already working on. That saves a ton of time since hourly labor rates are expensive. He continued, “It doesn’t charge by the tool entry, it charges by the user, so since rolling out ShareMyToolbox, we see nearly every tool come back. It’s a rarity when we can’t find something now.”
